Abstract

Optimum design, conceived as weight minimization, is formulated with reference to discrete (or discretized) physically nonlinear structures, under constraints concerning displacements and design parameter distributions. Optimality criteria and solving equations are achieved by means of the Lagrangian multiplier technique. A simple but significant example illustrates the method.
