The paper explores the proposition that deflections in high-speed linkage mechanisms of ‘realistic’ proportions may be estimated as if the rigid-body inertial loads were applied statically. Some practical limitations are examined in detail, and the paper considers the circumstances in which the adoption of relatively more flexible links may become normal practice.
